I grew up in Calumet City IL, next to Hammond IN. I shopped, worked and went to the movies in Hammond. I knew some people who knew Jean Shepherd personally.

Dear Max, Were you the announcer, introducing for a WBAI radio show around 1969 for (Someone or other) The Purple Pirate?
I am so grateful for your sanity during 10 years of my dysfunctional crack addiction in the 90's. After 7 months total sobriety I quit my 25 year carreer with the Postal Service in Long Island, New York. I managed to get my life back in a Civillian Federal permanent position at the Arsenal in Arkansas. I'm doing great now. My new Manager likes me, the Colonel knows me by my first name.
I was a New Yorker from 1957 till 2000. I still think they should call it "Fun City", The Big Apple should be for upstate, NY.
Your doing great, Max.

I'm glad someone has put up this internet site. Jean Shepherd had to be one of the greatest story tellers of our time and deserves to be remembered. I never missed a show if I could help it. Set my tape recorder before going to bed in case I fell a sleep.
