"That evening I heard a new voice on the radio, broadcasting live from The Limelight, a bar in the Village. Jean Shepherd told stories that had shape, like Roy Eldridge’s solos, and a great sense of timing. He made wild sounds of explosions, squeals, and cries. He described his friend Flick hurling a rock a miraculous seventy-fire yards at a trolley, knocking it out of service, and the lure of a girl named Jeanette Dombroski whose every move caused an undergarment strap to groan."
