Few personalities in any media have inspired such controversy and achieved such success as Jean Shepherd, best-selling author (In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash; and Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters), four-time Playboy Humor / Satire Award winner, media personality speaker and humorist. Along with radio and TV work Shepherd has also found
time to write numerous magazine features and a monthly magazine column, to tour colleges with his unique free-form comedy show, and to complete a teleplay based roughly on Wanda Hickey titled the Phantom of the Open Hearth, scheduled for PBS television this month. He is currently working on a film adaptation of In God We Trust to release in 1977. Perhaps the best known of Jean Shepherd's works is the TV series, Jean Shepherd's America. In response to public demand this is now in its third cycle. Shepherd has most recently been named recipient of the Bicentennial year's Mark Twain Award. Appropriately the award states:
"Mark Twain's successor as America's most delightful entertainer gentle depicter of the virtues and weaknesses of humanity with humor 's paintbrush.
