I have been a fan of Shep's since 1968. I am the proud owner of an autographed copy of "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters", Signed by Shep for me at a book signing at Bloomfield College. The autograph says: " To Howard...Flick lives!! Excelsior, dad.... " Jean Shepherd. 1971

Damn Bill Bucko, What a freaking memory! I didn't know you had a girlfriend. Was her name Wanda Hickey? You rascal! I also didn't know you were aware of every dive on Kennedy Ave. This is a huge revelation. Chet Bailor former "Hohman" resident and classmate of William Bucko at OP Morton HS. PS Not that many people actually drag raced on Cleveland Ave. Mr. Shepherd took some literary liberties as I'm sure have been revealed by the careful research of Billy B and others. You can ask Sue Wachel, Bernie Madiera, Marty Popagain, Ray Drake and others. By the way, Bill has written a couple of books himself.

Although I grew up watching A Christmas Story at least once a year since its release (I was born in 1981), I only thought to look into Shep's other works this year (which the computer wouldn't allow me to input). My line of work allows me to listen to headphones constantly, which is a beautiful thing. These days I listen almost exclusively to Jean Shepherd's broadcasts, courtesy of shep-archives.com. For the past two months, I've averaged about six hours per day of Shep, five days a week. I'm a true obsessive. If anyone can top that, I'll award you...and if you're a true fan, I shouldn't have to finish that statement!

I used to listen to Jean Sheperd when I was in college. My mother used to wait up for me when I went out on dates, much to my chagrin. However, when I got home she'd be sitting there laughing like crazy. I'd sit there too and the two of us would have a cup of tea and listen. This is one of the fondest memories I have of my mother who has been gone now for 12 years. I'm going to buy some of his tapes so I can go back down memory lane.

I'm at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference now because of Shep. I loved his stories and he inspired me with the wonder of words. I love telling how I listened to him fade in and out on the radio when I was a kid in Newport News.

I remember listening to Shep with my older brother (who controlled the radio in our room). I rediscovered the old shows recently and listen to mp3's of him every night-just like the old days!

I show his live show at Middlesex County College and the Carlton theater in Red Bank NJ. I really like his form of humor which I still enjoy today.

I listened to Shep every night while I was in Junior High School, and I got me parents to take me to "The Limelight" to watch him perform. My mother still remembers the night he had us turn out the lights and perform some kind of incantation.

NEW! We've located an original photograph of Shep's Warren G. Harding Elementary School ! It was difficult to find since his school was torn down in the 50's... No photos of it in the school office (current school), nor in the office of the Hammond School board. You'll even see the corner street post that says "Cleveland Street"... We have three of them posted ... Please visit: www.hhs59.com/harding.htm and see other links to the Orpheum Theatre ("Leopold Doppler's Orpheum Gravy Boat Riot") and get a glipse of what life was like in "Hohman, Indiana."

We used to listen to Shep on WOR. We are fellow radio amateurs: Edna is WA1WKK, Jim is W1PDL. Edna actually talked to Shep once on 2-meters, while we were driving through Maine.

His old man and mine were so alike in the movie that it soon became my all-time favorite movie. I have since read the books and listened to many of the radio shows. For some inexplicable reason his work makes me nostalgic for a time I never knew. Thank you for the website
