Our "Gang" discovered Shep while listening to the radio while sitting in Dad's old Chevy in the driveway at night in Middlesex, NJ. Tuning around the dial from "Cousin Brucie" and tuned into Shep. We were hooked instantly. Our neighborhood (Me, Nash, DelGobbo, Beilly) would gather around the radio in someone's room and sit mesmerized soaking it all in. Later, after college, I worked for a Utility company out of Hammond, Indiana. I actually worked with a guy that grew up with Shep, and he would recount tales of when they were kids. I love listening to the shows over the internet, and am sorry I didn't find this link till a few months ago, after Mr. Shepard's passing. He sure had a gift for telling a story.

After enjoying A Christmas Story and then reading all his short stories I discovered this site. Thanks to Jim Clavin ( I had friends named Jim and Mickey Clavin in New Rochelle, N.Y.)it was fun to read all about Shep. I'm sorry I never got to hear him on the radio as I left New York in 1954.

Truth is always more humerous than fiction, and Jean Dhepard was the greatest humorist of the 20th century.

Liked movie, just was curious, about year it was taking place.Judged it to be 1939-40 by the references to Wizard of Oz,and the Red Ryder BB gun which was first produced in 1938 and was discountinued 42-45.

It's 40 years since I saw Shep perform on New Year's Eve at the City Center in NYC. Few moments are rarely remembered with such a joy as this night I spent with some dear friends as we laughed and so enjoyed a master at his craft. The void left with his passing has never been filled. He was (and will always remain) light years ahead of his time.
