Comments: Is there any way to get a copy of "The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski"? That was one of the funniest movies we've ever seen.

Comments: fort wayne used to recieve pbs broadcast from bowling green, ohio. i think it was in the late 70's or early 80's they aired a show with shep driving a packard or a hispano suiza around the indy 500 track. one of the cars had been celebrity owned in the past. i don't find this topic listed.

Comments: I posted a short note about Shep on e-ham.net and the response has been pretty amazing, some of the replies were from people that knew or worked with him but most of the others have the same story... transistor radio under the pillow.

Comments: I listened to Shep starting in the late '50's from WOR in New York. As I recall it was Sunday nights. I was a senior in high school in '59 and Shep was the greatest thing I ever heard on radio. Still is. I'm going to order some of his tapes. The most memorable were the Robert Service Yukon poems. Great Stuff.

Comments: My Uncle Bob was a buddy of Shep's. He and my Dad were ringleaders of the "Sons of the Whiskey Rebellion" whose music was often used on the show. Many of the guys in the band were fans of Sheppard. As a kid, I used to hear tales about him and the WOR show. I will let Uncle Bob know about the effort to collect info- he has hundreds of tapes of everything that was ever on the radio...a big WOR fan...thanks, Mark

Comments: It's 1961. Hackensack, NJ. I'm 12. And... I'm tuning through the band on my new pocket size RCA transistor radio hidden under my pillow. That's so my parents wouldn't know I was still awake. Then I hear a voice, distant at first, quick...tune it in better. It's not music; not mindless, but with a beat. It's different, a real voice, like a window on the world. Entertaining, but demanding, no..commanding attention. That was my first experience with a talk show, and I was hooked on Shep!! He was talking to me, just for me!! To this day my mom doesn't know who Shep was. That's as it should be.

Comments: I first heard about Shep for my older brother & his friends when I was about 14. Like many others I tried as hard as possible to stay awake and listen on my little radio under my pillow. I only wish I had met him. I couldn't get enough of his TV shows on PBS. Wouldn't it be great to see those shows again.
Great site.

Comments: Great site! I started listening to Jean the same as many of you, on WOR at bed time.
I remember my dad took me to see him live at the Clinton Museum back in the 70's. And while standing near the stage, enthralled that I would finally see him in person. And as he walked to the stage, he stopped looked at me, rubbed me on the head and said "how you doing kiddo". That was the greatest!

Comments: My experience was very similar to others who signed the guest book...I listened late at night in my home in Stamford, Connecticut...loved his "night people" sequences...work in the media business here in Hawaii...recently discussed Shepherd with local Number One talk show station manager whose station carries Rush, Savage..surprised to find out that he and others in local radio have never heard of Shepherd, who I thought was universally recognized as a talk show icon...are there any Best of Jean Sherpherd tapes available from his WOR days?
