Comments: As a gift from my fiance', while on a trip to Florida, I turned on my CD player and after "a pregnant pause" the theme song "Bahn Frei" and the gifted and talented voice of Jean Shepherd wafted from the speakers. I was instantly transported back to my childhood on Long Island, a transistor radio tuned to WOR hidden beneath my pillow, my mother a few steps down the hall believing her wonderful son was studying geography. Oh if she knew ... I was a part of the growing legion of Jean Shepherd devotee's and the terrific stories I would discuss with my boyhood chums the following day. Many a morning I would curse the sleep that had taken me from his story and run to a friend and ask, " How did it end?". Those WERE the good old days. I thank everyone who is involved in keeping Jean Shepherd's legacy alive. Excelsior! You Fathead!... Seltzer Bottle!

Comments: There is nothing like "shep" then or now. I miss those shows that were filles with tales of flick and schwartz and anything that would pop into that fertile mind. Excelsior!!!!

Comments: I first heard Shep in a Studebaker Lark. A friend's father was driving us home after a club meeting. It was raining. Shep was talking about his trip to Peru, I think. I remember he talked about bats and played spooky music. I'd never heard anything like his show before.
If there is an alien SETI Project out there somewhere in the cosmos, it would be fitting if Shep's laugh was the first sign of life they discovered.

Comments: I was a nut on this type of talk radio and used to listen to Don Blanding, the Hungry I, and Dave Ballard reflections when I was younger and lived in Seattle. Whne I was a kid in the early 50's, I listened to The Lone Ranger, Little Orphan Annie and the Secret Squadron (Brought to you by Ovaltine and I had a secret ring) on the radio. My son, now in his 20's listens to Christmas Story all day on TV as it is on 24 hours up here in Mt Vernon WA.

Comments: Shep.....what can I say. So many hot sweaty North Jersey summer nights with his voice in my ear. Telling stories and truth about life and the world. I can close my eyes and easily hear his gravelly chuckle echoing through the ether.
RIP Shep

Comments: I listened each night on WOR - lived in Jersey at that time. My good friend Greg Neighbor and I were big fans. Hey Greg, where are you now?
Saw Shep several times at Princeton Alaxander Hall. Read all his books, watched Shepards Pie.
Recently obtained 18 shows on tape from a friend Joe Gangi fron the mid 60s.
Love the site!
