Shep was always interacting with other people in the control room, the engineer, producers, passer-bys, Leigh Brown and others. Over the years it became apparant that those in the control room WERE his audience on which he fed in order to tell his stories. Many times you would here him direct a comment to one of them specifically by name. At times he would sene they were not listening and would chastise them - "Hey, hey, what's going on in there - forget about that"

Quite often in mid-sentence, Shep would mention the engineer's name as if to get his attention that a cue for a piece of music was coming.
