Quite often Shep would mention Camp Crowder in his Army storiesand Crowder was used for Signal Corp training during WWII, so it is likely that he was actually there for his training before heading to Camp Murphy in Florida.
Note of interest - On the old "Dick Van Dyke Show" some of the episodes dealt with Rob Petrie's Army days as flashbacks and he was stationed at Camp Crowder.
