May 16, 1971
Season: 0 - Episode: 0
An official from the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and one of the new television personalities of the public TV network will be guests at the fourth annual meeting of the Friends of Channel 21 Sunday afternoon at the Wisconsin Center.
The official is Hartford Gunn, president of the new PBS which includes WHA-TV and more than 200 other public television stations.
The personality is Jean Shepherd, long known in broadcast circles as a raconteur, and whose series "Jean Shepherd's America" premiered last month over Public TV.
Gunn's talk will follow a brief meeting of the membership at 3:30 in the Lakeshore Room of the Center. In the days before PBS, Gunn founded and directed the Eastern Educational Television Network, which played an important role in distributing programs to member stations. He is a former Chairman of the board for the National Assn. of Educational Broadcasters (N A E B), and former vice-president and general manager of WGBH-TV and FM in Boston, one of the largest public broadcasting centers in the country.
Shepherd will entertain members at a reception in the Alumni Lounge, at which time background music will be provided by the Allen Chase Trio.
The "Friends" organization formerly was known as the Community Council for Public Television.
