Echoes-Sentinel (Warren Township), July 18, 1985:
Jean Shepherd To Perform At Clinton Historical Village
Humorist Jean Shepherd will bring his stories on life in America to the Clinton Historical Museum Village at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, for the seventh consecutive year.
Storyteller, philosopher, and award-winning author, Shepherd has a series of 13 programs currently being aired weekly on public television. In the series titled "Jean Shepherd's America," Shepherd acts as a modern day Mark Twain. He chooses spots in America he finds interesting and presents them in a lightheaded and sometimes sarcastic view. Shepherd has also produced two American Playhouse comedy-dramas for PBS. "The Star Crossed Romance of Josephine Kosnowski," which aired in February, was voted funniest special by TV guide.
Shepherd started in Chicago as a radio personality in the 1950s. He was later a monologist on WOR radio in New York. He is a four-time winner of the Playboy Writing Award for Best Humorist. Books he has written include: "A Fistful of Fig Newtons," "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories," and "In God We Trust - All Others Pay Cash." A shorter work, "A Christmas Story," was adapted into a film in 1983 and became a box office success.
The concert is being presented as part of the Clinton Historical Museum Village's summer weekly "Concerts in the Park" series. The village is at 56 Main St. in Clinton, exit 15 off Route 78. Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert will go on sale at the gate at 6 p.m. Prices are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for children aged 6-12. Rain date is July 21, same time and place. For more information call the museum at 735-4101.
