Bob Clark

aka: Bob Clark

Director - "A Christmas Story"

Bob Clark, born August 5, 1939, directed and co-wrote "A Christmas Story." He was already famous for his movie "Porky's. Clark heard Shepherd's syndicated radio show in the mid '60s and was so captivated by the elaborate telling of the frozen-tongue story that, already running late for a date, he drove around in his car for 15 minutes to hear how the story ended. "When I finally picked her up, I had a lot of explaining to do," he says. "But I was floored by the way Jean told the story I was just a kid in my mid twenties at the, time, but I started thinking, right then, 'I've got to find this guy.'" (TV Guide - December 22, 2001) Bob played a cameo in "A Christmas Story" as a neighbor named Swede. His small part went as follows: Mr. Parker: It's a Major Award! Swede: A Major Award? Shucks, I wouldn't know that. It looks like a lamp. Mr. Parker: It is a lamp, you nincompoop, but it's a Major Award. I won it! Swede: Damn, hell, you say won it? Mr. Parker: Yeah, mind power, Swede; mind power. Bob Clark died in an automobile accident on the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles on April 4, 2007.
